president of Illinois Tech, New York University and

Earl Foster named first full-time Graduate Manager
(student activities and athletic supervisor).

Graduate Manager Earl Foster hired an Athletic staff
who created the famous Golden Era of Cougar Athletics -
Hollingbery, Bailey, Friel, Deeter, Schlademan,
Bohm.

Butch Meeker, 5-foot-5, 145-pound halfback, led the
football team to a successful 6 win-1 loss season. The
Cougar mascot was named "Butch" in his honor.
1927
First live Cougar mascot presented by State of
Washington Gov. Roland Hartley.

Phi Beta Kappa chapter established - first for a
separate land-grant institution.

N.J. Aiken, head of vocational school, started first
career placement service. During the Depression. N.J.
was referred to as "No Job."

First Ph.D. degree conferred - Ph.D. in
Bacteriology.
